Korean Language Levels: Understanding TOPIK
TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) is the standard test for Korean language ability. Many universities and visa pathways use TOPIK scores.
TOPIK Levels
TOPIK I covers levels 1–2 (beginner). TOPIK II covers levels 3–6 (intermediate to advanced). Level 3 is often the minimum for degree programs taught in Korean; some programs require level 4 or higher.
Test Structure and Registration
The test has listening, reading, and (in TOPIK II) writing sections. It is held several times a year in Korea and in many countries. Register through the official TOPIK website and prepare according to the level you need.
Using Your Score
Universities may set minimum TOPIK levels for admission. D-2 visa applicants sometimes need to show language ability. Prepare early and take practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format.
